Neely Benn, LCSW
I have over a decade of experience working with individuals facing challenging and significant moments that are often connected with anxiety and depression.
I believe wholeheartedly in my work as a therapist and I care deeply about the people I work with. I’m here to listen and to help guide, so you can learn how to live your life in the present. I am willing to use creativity and alternative means to help people find their path. While I support medication, I encourage my clients to integrate holistic approaches with nutrition and meditation versus a "medicine only" approach.
I love the power of group therapy and believe it helps communities connect and grow. I am the creator and leader of Finding Your Yes! Improv for Wellness, an improvisation group intended for people living with social anxiety, depression, and low self-esteem. I am also the creator and leader of a program intended to help individuals who have loved ones facing severe mental illness.
I try to reach people beyond the walls of my office. I have made multiple TV, press, and radio appearances across Chicago talking about topics such as the dark side of social media, election stress, anxiety during the holidays, and cyber bullying.
I trained in Musical Theater at Tisch School of the Performing Arts at New York University, and obtained a Master of Social Work degree from Washington University in St. Louis. My approach to therapy includes Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and elements of Gestalt therapy. I am also Equine Certified.
When my mind is not with my clients it is on my camera. I see a strong connection between abandoned places and the complexity of the human condition and deeply enjoy urban exploring (URBEX). I am the founder of Just Nee Photography, and you can see some of my photographs here.
